Comment: Not only undiagnosed hearing loss, but untrained staff who are paid care for deaf and HI in their homes, some provided BY AOHL, few if any are trained in communications. It meant many quite elderly infirm deaf people had basic help in the home but still no-one to talk to...... Despite language need being defined. the 'loophole' seems to be via 'Care' qualifications, it isn't a statutory requirement they have to be able to COMMUNICATE, ridiculous !
No proper care exists without effective communication....... Being ignored in their own home can often mean deaf refuse the help they need. Qualifications in care appear extremely lax too, and no real monitoring. Recent abuses to learning disabled in Bristol (Which saw 6 staff jailed for wholesale abuse, and the home closed), later saw MORE abuse when they were transferred elsewhere... Deaf people with Alzheimers were at very high risk.... yet apart from an am and pm visit of one hours durations, were left on their own....
